Reproductive System

The reproductive system consists of sex organs within an organism, functioning in the reproduction of offspring. The major organs that produce the haploid cells involved in reproduction are the testes in males and the ovaries in females. Concern with fluoride has included the subject of the reproductive system and its effects on puberty and fertility.

There are few human and animals studies that relate fluoride to reproductive system effects, and the few that are available show adverse results such as low sperm count and miscarriages, however these issues were only present in subjects that were exposed to 100+ mg/ L of fluoride (more than 100x the normal amount encountered).

Many of the human subjects documented happened to work in factories in the 60’s to the 70’s, and were exposed to other possible compounds. This fact, therefore, makes it more problematic to embroil any specific substance in causing adverse health effects. Given the current evidence, it is unreasonable to assume that fluoride at the optimal drinking levels would cause severe reproductive damage.
